3 NH CE Credits: Understanding Environmental Impacts and How They Can Affect Your Real Estate Transaction

“You have an environmental problem on this property!”  These are dreaded words in the real estate and development worlds and typically cause people to run for the hills.

That’s unfortunate because although environmental concerns can be a major deal-breaker on some property transactions, in most cases environmental impacts very manageable.  The most important strategy to resolving the environmental concerns on an impacted property and completing a profitable transaction for all concerned is to understand the lingo.

To achieve this goal, this course will have Nobis Engineering personnel go over the typical environmental lingo and make you familiar with the terms.  You’ll then walk through some real world environmental site investigations, from discovery to clean-up, to give you an idea of what’s involved in addressing contamination under varied conditions.  Finally, you’ll be given examples of sites and asked if you think there’s environmental concerns at these sites.  If you determine there are concerns, you’ll then be asked how to address these environmental concerns.

At the conclusion of this course, you’ll have the basic knowledge to no longer “run for the hills” when you hear a property has environmental contamination.  Being familiar with the terminology, the different types of contaminants, and having an understanding of what types of clean-ups could be deployed on the property may give you that edge to hang in there and give a second look at what could be one of the best property deal you’ve ever completed.
