As REALTORS, we take an oath to support the NAR Code of Ethics, the legal standards controlling our profession, and those countless things we’ve learned from our community and mentors in the business that help guide us to go above and beyond those minimum standards. This month, I’d like to point out that the majority of those mentors that have the greatest impact in our community and profession have learned a lot by their service to the community, and that’s where they gained the insight, experience, and wisdom to pass it along to others.
One of the greatest ways to do so is to serve on a committee and ultimately the board of directors and learn what it is we do to further the profession of Commercial Real Estate. Sometimes it takes just one wise voice in the community to make a difference, and help guide decisions made on a daily basis from a fundamental level. I have personally benefited and learned from having many such voices hailing from numerous different firms and brands, with a unifying purpose and Mission. From large national brand firms to small boutique firms, the leadership and collaboration we find in NH CIBOR is unique.
I’d like to challenge every one of our members that reads this to look into how they can give back, whether by serving on a committee, supporting NH CIBOR Cares or one of our events, or spreading the word to the next generation. Serving on a committee often takes only one to two hours a month of your time to help out a little, or as many as 15 to 20 hours a month if you have it to spare and want to help tremendously. Several do, and are known throughout the association for their dedicated service. I can personally attest to the fact that we have people at both ends of that commitment spectrum, and all contributions are valued, so even if you can only give an hour or two a month now, please do so.

Recently, we’ve had some great REALTORS and affiliates step up and join our committees and board, so while success and involvement is poised to bring more opportunity for all, now is the time to elevate the visibility and service we embody across the association and board. Here’s to a great 2024!
