Addressing a housing correlation myth

First in workforce housing video series released

As part of our effort to shed light on various facets of workforce housing in the midst of the inventory crisis, NHAR released the first in a series of videos on the subject this morning during a forum at Saint Anselm College.

Does workforce housing lead to more school-aged kids, and therefore higher taxes? That is the question addressed in this five-minute video featuring UNH professor emeritus of economics Richard England. Dr. England is well-versed in the subject, having conducted a comprehensive study on the correlation between school enrollments and tax rates using data from every town in New Hampshire. That NHAR-sponsored study can be found here.

We ultimately hope the video is shared widely in order to help debunk a myth that we believe is a significant impediment to building more housing, and ultimately to housing affordability, in New Hampshire.
