This program will teach re-development design strategies to create vibrant, mixed –use centers in existing commercial areas that help communities implement smarter, more sustainable development patterns. Commercial corridors of the 21st century can restore degraded natural areas, protect and restore water quality, create recreational opportunities and promote the health of both humans and wildlife.
Who should attend: Commercial property owners and investors, developers, engineers, planners, civic leaders, town board members, landscape architects, and anyone who cares about the future economic vitality and livability of their community. The program highlights the benefits of redevelopment and adaptive reuse of aging commercial corridors and downtowns into multi-use centers for the 21st century.
All participants will be guided through a hands-on design exercise illustrating how the kinds of improvements described and illustrated in the presentation can be implemented on-the-ground.
